Made up makeup

We are definitely feeling the adventurous makeup vibes at the moment here at Puckoo! It’s party season, and we’re after a look that has us standing out from the rest.

We’ve been browsing Youtube for some good how-to’s, and have found a couple of creams of the crop.

This video, by Pixi Woo, is amazing!  We realise she creates  a very dramatic look, but we’re just taking a few bits from it-  like how useful is the bit on pritt-sticking eyebrows to make a new shape?! And we love what she does with the red eye shadow and the eye liner, perfect for our xmas party outfits.

We also love this look by Moam Network, it’s so fresh and fun. We will definitely be rocking it at a club night soon! Leopard print+ pastel colours= tropical heat to warm up winter nights!

We hope you found the tutorials as inspiring as we did. Stay tuned for tips from our own makeup artists!

Two days, three fashion shows!

Wow, what an inspiring few days we had last week!

First, on the Thursday, there was the show at Hamilton House, Bristol, for all the designers based there, including us =). It was lots of fun, really nice to see everybody, and Butzi, the organiser, had set the event space up so beautifully. We love love loved the romantic style flower lights. I may have to get some for the boudoir. The hats featured by Fifi Venus Millinery were wicked, you should definitely check them out now it is getting close to Halloween and Christmas, they are the perfect spectacle for completing that party outfit.

Then on Friday, Dionne went  to show at new Bristol youth venue, The Station, and I went to London for the Sorapol catwalk…

A big thank you to lovely Natalie Dundh, who helped Dionne with the dressing of our models for the Station show- don’t know what we would have done without you! It was really lovely to see loads of youths getting involved. Such a nice project they have there. Our good friend Katcha Bilek was also there, showing her amazing line of recycled accessories. Dutty Girl were also representing, along with the amazinnnnggg Celia Arias. Her collection was incredible!

Puckoo rocked it!

On to Sorapollllllllllllll! An amazing performance in an underground car park in Soho, London, which took me so long to find! They drove in a crazy motorbike that looked like it could have been used in Tron. All the models had these strange, doll like, net masks on. They less walked than hobbled starry eyed down the catwalk, as if the audience had stumbled in on them whilst they were on some almighty bender. The ecstasy vibes were fluent throughout the collection, which included neon colours, drug capsule beading and a jaw dropping finishing piece in the form of a dress with a real working double headed guitar. A true fashion SHOW.

We loved this outfit! Wantttt!

The finishing outfit- wowwwwaweeewahhh!

The masks and wigs were an amazing idea!

All in all, a perfect few days. And, check out the sunset at the end of that weekend... lush!

We can’t wait to see what the next few weeks have to offer!

'Awetumn'

Autumn/ Winter 2012 is now truly upon us, meaning more rain and more traffic… *yawn*. But have no fear, because that means it is now time to don our fab A/W Bladerunner collection. We’ll have you partying through to 2013, and then some! This collection features the boldest of prints, by our wicked collaborators TAPT, contrasting with lush nudes, and striking brights. Not forgetting the bling, of course! It may be getting dark early, but no one can take the colour from our wardrobes!

The collection featured in a fashion show in Bristol last year, that raised money for Sue Ryder. Sue Ryder is a brilliant charity that provides compassionate care to people with life threatening and terminal illnesses. They also give support to the family members during such a difficult time.
The event  took place in Brunel’s Old Station, Bristol, in a hugeeee passenger shed and was hosted by the hilarious Julian Bennett (and Lulu the Chihuahua!).  Here are some pics of the show:

Find us at Brick Lane's Sunday Up Market

We are very excited to announce that you can now find Puckoo Couture at Brick Lane’s Sunday UpMarket ! We will be there every Sunday, at the Old Truman’s Brewery with our bessie mate, Lou Hallswell (of Sew That Jazz and Fuud Hoods).

Our stall

Our first day on the stalls was a trip down memory/Brick Lane for Dionne, who had worked in the same market a few years ago,. You would think that would make it easy to find,  but it really wasn’t, we ended up getting lost in the rain carrying a very awkward mannequin!

It was my first time in the area, and I loved every second. There is some serious fashion talent going on there! I really liked the handmade studded shirt collars and downstairs there was so much awesome vintage. And,  not only are there clothes, but also jewellery, crafts, art and photography and lots of yummy food! Saint Saviours, good friends of Dionne’s who hand finish the fineeessssttt hats ( and can now even be found in Topshop!) were also there, and I was left lusting after a wicked and bad felt trilby with Navajo detailing (for those that are not in the know, by bad I actually mean good!).

Matt from Saint Saviour with some of his hats.

I  of course, had a browse around the stalls myself and picked up the coolest eye ring for £3! Bargain!! I also stopped for a while at the funkiest stall in London, belonging to a guy called Jimmy. I’m guessing the afro headed, flare wearing, tooth missing mix maker knows how to party!

My lush new ring

We were also lucky enough for that weekend to coincide with most of the local university’s creative degree shows, so there was loads of wicked work to look at in the gallery space downstairs. Our personal favourite was a chair covered in diamantes that read “I’ve had hundreds of arses in my time, so keep yours off!”! It would look so good in the studio! There was also a cool sculpture of an animal disintegrating into dust. It was made of fag ends and ash, which was a really interesting use of materials and looked amazing!

Sparkle sparkle

Ashes to ashes...

The day went really well for our stall too, with Dionne getting loadsss of orders for custom festival pieces for Burning Man. We arrived home on the coach very tired but equally very happy with our fashionable adventure. I can’t wait to go back, when I‘ll definitely be picking up another Kooky Bakes cupcake ( the Raspberry one is bordering on cake porn)! Below is a map of where to find the Sunday Up Market, so now you have no excuse to miss it! See you there!

Sorry, what was I talking about again? I was distracted by the major yums!

Hot Hot Hot D'Jour!

Hey, yo!
We hope you have all been having an amazing summer. Here at Puckoo Couture, we’ve had an absolute stormer, including the weather (rain rain rainnnn)! We are very sad that festival season is almost over, but won’t it be nice to sleep in a proper bed again!

However, it is definitely not the time to hibernate, which we have to keep telling ourselves now that bed is so inviting! There is so much going on around here in Bristol that if we snooze, we will lose!
Take last weekend, the premiere night of the eagerly awaited Hot D’Jour music video, ‘Undone’, which we styled back in June. The night, at Bristol’s sickest cinema, the Cube not only showcased the fantastic achievement of Hot D’Jour’s new video, but also some other’s of Bristol’s new talent, including Gutterfunk, Central Spillz, Se Fire and Dr Meaker. We especially liked the video for Sure Thing - Holding You Tight. The 80s style was so spot on that it was like stepping back into a Top of the Pops video.

From producers to camera men and designers to djs, the whole event really reinforced the feeling of pride we get from being a part of the creative Brizzle scene.
The night was topped off by a lushhhh performance by the crazy cool Hot D’Jour duo, Holly G and Denzil. We haven’t heard live vocals of that calibre in a very, very long time, so big ups!

So, I know it has been a long time coming, but we can now share some of
our behind the scenes photos from the ‘Undone’ shoot!

Don’t forget to watch out for Hot D’Jour’s video, ‘Undone’, which will be on a screen near you realll soon!

Photos, pizza and a 'propeeerrr jooobbbb' team

Hello you lovely lot! Hope you have all been having a wicked summer. Sorry for lack of updates over the last few weeks, it’s been mental busy here at Puckoo Couture!

We’ve got so much to share, but we wouldn’t want to keep you here all day! So, I’ll tell you one bit at a time, starting with our ASOS photoshoot...

A very hectic, but very fun time was had shooting this year's Autumn/Winter ‘Blade Runner’ and Spring/Summer collections for ASOS and G-Star Supplements a couple of weeks ago.
It was my first time doing the photography for a professional shoot, so I was majorly nervous!
Naturally, being in lovely England meant that it rained on and off all day, making our street photography shoot pretty difficult! But, we rose to the challenge, adding a few extra locations to the list… thank god for covered car parks!

Here are a few sneaky peek pics (all these pics are by me =)) -

We would like to thank every one involved for the massive effort made to help… so, shouts outs to:
Amy Deegan, for saving our skins by taking photos, after I turned up with a broken flash…woops!
Jo Priestley, for the amazing makeup (even though she had been up for four days working on a film shoot!)
Georgia Platt, for her sexyyyyyy styling
and,of course, the models; Malgosia Domanska, Sarah J Devereux, Hollie G and Chantelle- you killed it!

Dionne, as usual, worked ridiculously hard to put the whole thing together, so special shout out to her! Big upssss!

Celebratory pizzas and salads were wolfed down afterwards at The Bank on Stokes Croft. You need to try the blue cheese and pear pizza, it’s lush! This was all washed down with a well earned vodka, lime and soda, of course!

Got to run now, as we are off to do a shoot for our Spring/Summer'13 collection! But, there is still so much more to tell you about what we have been up to, so stay tuned!

We’re currently working on the clothes and styling for Hot D’Jour’s new music video- think chains, feathers, charms and studs…and then add a whole load more blingblingbling!! It’s been a struggle, with head designer Dionne on only eight hours sleep for the last 3 days trying to get everything finished in time, but it’s so worth it and we are really excited for shooting the music video on Saturday & Sunday! The video will be filmed at Circomedia in Bristol, meaning there will be lots of fun to be had with performers, hoops and general circus tom-foolery! Seriously, can’t wait! We are going to give you lucky so-and-so’s a behind the scenes look, so keep checking our blog for pics and more!
